As this exhibition happen in Erasmus Huis, which is the Dutch embassy, they wanna tell us how the Prince Dipenogoro in Dutch Perspective.
Prince Diponegoro (1975-1855) was the chief protagonist in the Java War (1825-1830), aimed at removing the Dutch from political control of Java. After 5 years of struggle, the Dutch arrested Diponegoro at a 'peace conference; in 1830, and exiled him to Celebes (Sulawesi). ... The Java War was an economic and political turning point in Indonesia's modern history. ... Today Diponegoro whose name means 'Light of the Country,' has a 'national hero' status in Indonesia.
What i really spotted & interested is how Luthfi Hasan interpret Diponegoro in mixed media installation that titled 'Diponegoro reclaimed (2014)'. He used recycled materials.
Hasan seeks to show that something that has existed, or has been used in the past, does not mean that its purpose has disappeared. This, in his view, also applies to Diponegoro and his principles of conviction, bravery, determination, and loyalty. Diponegoro's heroism and values continue to be relevant today.
