Semanggi Kita + Sejauh Mata Memandang

actually this is not the opening image. this one for the photography presentation room.

some welcoming words

This exhibition was an inauguration of highway Semanggi Junction (Simpang Susun Semanggi). Located at Senayan City, this exhibition also became a part of Senayan City's annual event to commemorate the Indonesia Independence Day.

This exhibition was initiated by Jakarta's National Craft Council (Dekranasda DKI Jakarta) and Chitra Subyakto from Sejauh Mata Memandang. They also collaborated with Bina Marga, Mata Studio, construction firm Wijaya Karya (WIKA) and 17 young artist under the name Dia.Lo.Gue. Also being exhibited a photography by Davy Linggar and video by David Salim.

The iconic shape of four-clover Semanggi Junction as a main inspiration for the newest collection from Sejauh Mata Memandang. As a founder of Sejauh Mata Memandang, Chitra Subyakto together with several housewives from Marunda low-cost apartment, they collaborated to turn this semanggi pattern into some pieces of colorful fabric using hand drawn batik technique. Within 6 months, those housewives were given batik & embroidery training that provided by Chitra and Dekranasda DKI Jakarta. This training will help the housewives to empower their economy and to improve their skills.

The four-leaf clover Semanggi Junction is a symbol of unity between the eastern, western, northern, southern and central parts of capital Jakarta with no traffic light.

HOW IT BEGAN :
Initiated by Ir. Sutami in 1961 and officially inaugurated by President Sukarno in 1962 as part of a city-centre development
project for the Asian Games, the Semanggi Junction sits on ancient swamp lands inundated with fields of marsiela mutica:
the common clover leaf.

The fused and overlapping petals of this particular type of salviniales was the prime inspiration for the junction as a symbol
of the nation's unity, considering the junction's practical function as a barrier-free connector of Jakarta's five boroughs:
Central, North, South, West and East Jakarta.

Situated in Karet, Setiabudi, the Semanggi Junction was a central component of President Sukarno's "Proyek Mercusuar"
that included the construction of the National Monument (Monas), Hotel Indonesia, the Sarinah shopping centre
as well as the Senayan Sports complex.

Constructed with prestressed concrete with a 50-metre span, the junction was created with a prime function of alleviating
the traffic congestion that was predicted to arise as a result of the 1962 Asian Games. Its position in the middle of two
of the capital's main avenues: Jl. Sudirman and Jl. Gatot Subroto lends the junction its unique representation of
a unifying icon for the young nation

Photography Presentation Room by Davy Linggar

being inside this room makes me amaze how the creator could think about putting
some sheets of see-through fabric as a replacement screen projector.
with additional fan to make the fabric flowing beautifully.
either the photo is moving or the fabric is moving.
it really represents how the video could moving in reality.

the perks being a jobless, i could attend on a weekday quietly
the perks having an old friend that working near location, i could kidnap her after office hour

oasis day by volunteering at 'kelas inspirasi' jakarta

it was my first experience. it was started with 'why don't i try it'
of course not as an inspirator, because i can't handle how to communicate with kids and i'm not good at teaching people.
i applied as an photographer. it's like a trial for me. let's see how far i can capture the situation. besides that, deep inside me still craving for hunting some photos.
thankfully i got selected, pssst to join this volunteer, i need to fill a form via online.

it's all about the first time for me.
first time saw (not fully attended) the flag ceremony since ages ago.
first time took human photo intensively after awhile.
first time went back to school. yippie

it was a monday morning mandatory flag ceremony. i saw lots of kids for the first time after awhile. look at their eyes, their little hands, their body behavior while doing that monday morning routine.

it was an oasis day.
my interpretation : for once to be having a little fun and happiness in the middle of hectic life / boring days / daily routine

as that day, the kids didn't learn about math, science or language. it was their oasis day to begin knowing that there are many professions besides being a doctor, pilot, teacher, policeman.
it was also our oasis day. the kids didn't know how their little smile and excitement are something for us.

closing time. kids wrote their dream profession on paper plane. then we throw it to the sky,
hoping their dream is higher enough
